Download Time Calculator

Estimate theoretical download time from file size and connection speed.

Estimate transfer duration

Estimated duration

Formula and unit definitions

Time = data amount ÷ transfer rate after both values are normalized consistently. Decimal MB/GB/TB use base 1000; IEC MiB/GiB/TiB use base 1024. Mbps/Gbps are bits per second, while MB/s and GB/s are bytes per second.

Worked example

1 GB at 100 Mbps takes 80 seconds, or 1 minute 20 seconds, theoretically.

Theoretical estimate

Results are theoretical estimates. Real transfers may be slower because of protocol overhead, server or device limits, Wi-Fi conditions, congestion, latency, and ISP behavior.
